INI-CET is not NEET PG with a different name. It is a separate entrance, on a separate pattern, with its own counselling, for the Institutes of National Importance — AIIMS across its campuses, JIPMER, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS and their peers. Treating it as an add-on to NEET PG prep is the commonest and costliest mistake.

Why INI-CET is its own game
The INIs conduct their own admission through INI-CET, separate from the NEET PG counselling that fills most other seats. That separation runs all the way through: a distinct exam pattern, a distinct and far smaller pool of highly sought seats, and a distinct counselling process with its own schedule and choice dynamics.
The exam itself rewards a different profile of preparation from NEET PG — the emphasis, the style of questioning and the depth expected are not identical, and preparation tuned only to NEET PG leaves gaps. Doctors targeting the INIs need to prepare for INI-CET specifically, not assume overlap will carry them.
And because the number of seats at the top institutes is small and the competition is among the strongest candidates in the country, the counselling — how you fill and sequence your choices across the INIs — carries even more weight than usual.
